All about Pages, Posts and Categories
It’s easy to get confused between WordPress pages, post and categories …
The content for your real estate blog, both copy and photos are stored in a database and dynamically delivered to the viewer via templates. That’s why changing templates changes the way a blog site looks immediately.
So let’s go over the differences.

Pages and posts are not files.
Pages are static content that does not change and may or may not have comments attached to them.
- Pages are usually used for content such as “About Me,” “Contact Me,” etc
- A page can be used as a static home page for a less “blog” like real estate site
- Pages do not have categories or tags associated with them
- Pages can have different template styles from other pages (usually different sidebar layout)
- Pages can be grouped under Parent pages
Here is an example of Parent and child pages:
- Africa
- Cameroon
- Lesotho
- Swaziland
- Togo
Posts or blog posts are more timely, you would add posts several times a week on subjects that might interest your target visitors. Usually displayed in chronological order within multi-post pages
- Posts can be shown to visitors in the normal blog style display – headline and extract
- Posts can be associated with categories and or tags
- Posts can be displayed by category type or by tag
- Posts can be time delayed to appear, so you can write a whole bunch and release them slowly
Categories are a way of grouping and sorting your posts under logical headings.
Important: one of the best ways we have found to use Pages and Posts is to use posts to drive traffic to your static Pages with the posts content being delivered to internet users via your sites RSS feed.
Tip: Usually posts are the only content that WordPress searches when you search within a blog, which is why we recommend the plugin Search Everything.
