I can’t write so I’m just not going to bother

Bloggers don't have to write!

So you want to blog, but you just can't write? We hear this pretty regularly, but when I hear it I often wonder …

iStock 000013098119XSmall 205x300 I cant write so Im just not going to bother… is it that you can't write or is it that you can't type?

I guess the end result is really the same, no blog!  Well regardless, we want to help you overcome this silly obstacle; so we have put together a pretty solid list of technologies that can help you get started blogging.

Before we get to the list of technologies to help you write content, we want to remind you that you do not have to create a written blog.

You actually have choices, there are 3 different types of blog:

  1. Written
  2. Video
  3. Audio

So if writing is something that you are just not comfortable doing you can see that you have other options.  But from my experience the most successful bloggers are people who claim not to be great writers.  It is okay to write your blog posts like you talk, nobody is checking for perfect grammar and sentence structure …

Now that we have that out of the way, here are some technologies that you may find very helpful.

If you hate typing or just suck at it, here are some really great options for you to look at:

Maybe you don't mind typing but you struggle with finding the time or maybe your creative juices always seem to flow when you are away from your keyboard.  No problems, consider using

  • Try using a Digital recorder to record your creative thoughts when you have them. You can then play them back when you have time to sit down and type. They even have transcription software that you can buy for less than a couple hundred bucks.

  • You can also send your voice recordings to a Transcription service company that will do this work for you and send you back a blog post ready for you to review & publish on your blog.

  • Another option is to hire a ghost writer to write content – but just like with the transription service we caution you!  Before you publish anything written by someone else to your blog, take time to proof & edit it so that it reads in your voice!  You can find ghost writers on Craigslist, Elance, FreeLancer, and even your local college.

If you are like me, you don't mind typing and aren't too interested in outsourcing your blog content, but sometimes suffer from good ole' writers block.  This happens to me I frequently so I employ the following strategies to keep moving forward.

  • Use Google alerts for ideas
  • I tend to do brain dump every few days -
  • Create draft posts with nothing more than the main headline and a few bullets.  Later I use them to then flesh out the post.

Are you still struggling for the motivation to get started blogging?
